CITY VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

Frequently Asked Questions

Academics and curriculum questions answered

Does City View offer hybrid classes?
No. City View High School offers two distinct programs — not a hybrid. Students are either fully enrolled in the in-person program at our Phoenix, AZ campus, running Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM, or fully enrolled in City View NOW — our 100% online program for Arizona students ages 16–21. In some cases, in-person students may complete an online course on campus as part of their personalized academic plan — but this is coordinated through your advisor and is not a separate hybrid track.
What courses are available each semester?
City View High School offers courses across all six Arizona graduation requirement areas — English and ESL, Mathematics, Science, History and Social Science, Fine Arts or Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Locally Prescribed Electives. Course availability varies each semester based on student enrollment and need. When you enroll at our Phoenix, AZ campus or through City View NOW online, your academic advisor will map out exactly which courses are available and which ones you need to earn your high school diploma or degree.
How many credits can I earn per year?
City View High School students can earn up to 8 credits per year — up to 4 per semester. This is significantly more than the traditional school average of 6 credits per year, which means students who are behind on credits can catch up and earn their high school diploma or degree on a realistic timeline. A student starting with zero credits and needing all 22 to graduate could complete the program in approximately 6 semesters — roughly 3 years — assuming they successfully pass all courses each semester.
What are the graduation requirements at City View High School?
City View High School follows Arizona's standard graduation requirement of 22 total credits — 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 History and Social Science, 1 Fine Arts or CTE, and 7 Electives. Transfer credits from previous schools are reviewed and applied toward your total wherever they qualify. Your advisor will show you exactly where you stand and build a graduation plan around the credits you still need. Students graduate with a real Arizona high school diploma or degree — not a GED or alternative certificate.
Can students transfer credits from their previous school?
Yes. Transfer credits from any previous Arizona school — or from out-of-state schools — are reviewed by our academic team and applied toward your City View graduation plan wherever they qualify. This means most students don't start from zero. Your advisor will review your transcripts during enrollment and show you exactly how many credits carry over and how many you still need to earn your high school diploma or degree. The sooner you enroll, the sooner you know exactly where you stand.
Is City View High School tuition-free?
Yes — completely. City View High School, including City View NOW online, is a tuition-free public charter high school in Phoenix, AZ authorized by the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools. There are no enrollment fees, course fees, or hidden costs for eligible Arizona resident students.
Do students receive academic support?
Yes. Every City View High School student — at our Phoenix, AZ campus or through City View NOW online — has two core academic supports. First, a highly qualified, certified teacher in small class settings who provides individualized instruction tailored to each student's needs. Second, a dedicated academic advisor who manages their personal graduation plan — mapping out exactly which credits they still need and the fastest path to earning their high school diploma or degree. For City View NOW online students, teachers provide regular progress monitoring and direct communication throughout the program.
Does City View offer Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways?
Yes. Career and Technical Education is one of the six core subject areas included in City View High School's graduation requirements. CTE coursework builds career-ready skills that count directly toward your high school diploma and prepare you for employment, vocational training, or post-secondary education after graduation. Specific CTE pathway options vary by semester — your advisor will confirm what's available when you enroll at our Phoenix, AZ campus or through City View NOW online.
